Telangana recorded 40% rise in online orders in FY22: Unicommerce

E-commerce order volumes in Telangana increased by more than 40 percent in FY23 compared to FY22, according to Unicommerce, an e-commerce technology company.

The company has analyzed more than 28 million orders processed in the region over the past two fiscal years to understand the changing e-commerce trends in the region. While Hyderabad and Secunderabad are the powerhouses of the up-and-coming online shoppers in the state, consumers from other regions are also shopping online.

said Kapil Makhija, CEO, Unicommerce

“As more and more consumers are turning to online shopping, the e-commerce market in Telangana is poised for continuous growth, providing exciting opportunities for companies and entrepreneurs to start their e-commerce journey,” Makhija added.

The data also revealed that Telangana consumers shop across different categories. Fashion and accessories is the largest category with maximum order volume and has recorded an average order volume growth of more than 55% in fiscal year 2023 compared to the previous fiscal year. The fashion and accessories category includes a wide range of products such as clothing, children’s clothing, shoes, bags, belts, wallets, and other accessories. Cosmetics and personal care is the second most popular segment in Telangana and has recorded an order volume growth of 20% year on year in FY2023. Electronic peripherals and audio products are also a growing segment with a growth of 74% in terms of order volume in FY2023 compared to the previous year. Other popular online shopping categories in Telangana are home decor and kitchenware, which recorded an order volume growth of more than 50 percent in FY2023.

Unicommerce, which allows companies to manage e-commerce operations, works with more than 60 Telangana companies and operates more than 400 local and national brand facilities in Telangana alone. The company analyzed the growth of the Telangana-based business and noted an impressive increase of 70 percent in orders shipped from the region to different parts of the country during FY23.

Jagdamba Pearls, a jewelery brand based in Hyderabad, has been working with Unicommerce for the past seven years. The brand processes over 5,000 item orders per month and serves consumers across the country while processing orders through the Unicommerce platform. Currently, the company sells across seven markets and a brand website.

“E-commerce allows us to easily connect and offer our products to consumers across the world,” said Avanish Agarwal, Managing Director, Sri Jagdamba Pearls. “We have invested in technology to strengthen our online business and ensure that we can offer exquisite pearl products to consumers in India and international markets. Our e-commerce business has thrived following the adoption of technology, as it allows us to improve business efficiency and offer a great shopping experience to consumers.”

There’s also Neeman’s, one of the country’s leading footwear-focused D2C (Direct-to-Consumer) brands with its roots in Hyderabad. The company reported a 100 percent growth in order volumes over the past year and processes about 80,000 orders each month.

“By leveraging technology to enhance the shopping experience, we hope to soar to new heights and continue to inspire more consumers to join us on our sustainability journey,” said Taran Chhabra, Founder and CEO of Niemans.

Businesses from smaller towns and cities are now exploring e-commerce and starting their journey online. While most of the sellers are based in Hyderabad, small sellers from cities like Warangal and Karimnagar are also building their own e-commerce business and embracing technology to connect with consumers across India and internationally. Some of the other brands that Unicommerce in Telangana works with include Health Unbox, Pure Cult, Aroma Care, Jivika Naturals, Daughter Earth, Promount Online Services, Catcub, Bello Herbals, Sterling Book Center and Futaba Tech.
