Pact inked to connect ONGC’s natural gas fields with North East Gas Grid

Indradhanush Gas Limited (IGGL) and Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) have signed three interconnection agreements to connect the latter’s natural gas fields to the North East Gas Network (NEGG) for the transportation of natural gas.

An official statement on Thursday said that the natural gas will be transferred from the Jorhat, Silchar and Tripura assets of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation to consumers.

IGGL lays a 1,656 km natural gas pipeline connecting capital cities and demand centers in all eight northeastern states.

Sanjay Kumar, director of IGGL, said these delivery agreements will facilitate the connection of the oil and natural gas company’s natural gas fields to the IGGL pipeline to evacuate natural gas.

He said, “The delivery agreements signed with IGGL are a strategic step to enhance the connection of ONGC fields to the Northeast gas network, which will benefit both companies.”

He said it will provide domestic gas to customers and contribute to the country’s economy as a whole.

Kumar said that by leveraging NEGG’s infrastructure, the hydrocarbon potential of the Northeast region can be fully utilized to develop a gas-based economy in line with the Center’s Hydrocarbon Vision 2030.

IGGL is also in contact with other natural gas producing companies to connect their gas fields with NEGG.

The delivery agreements will facilitate the withdrawal of 1,85,000 SCMD of natural gas from Jorhat Asset, 82,500 SCMD from Silchar assets and 7,00,000 SCMD from Tripura assets to ONGC through NEGG.

The statement added that the NEGG project implemented by IGGL achieved 75.52 percent material progress as on date.
