Tomatoes to be sold through ONDC in New Delhi to tackle rising prices

The tomatoes will be sold through the Open Network for Digital Trade (ONDC) in New Delhi by the National Cooperative Consumer Federation (NCCF).

This is among the steps the center is taking in the wake of the hike in tomato prices in the country.

T Koshy, CEO of ONDC, said, “We are enabling tomatoes at $70 in Delhi through the ONDC network by NCCF in the same line as you using mobile vans in Delhi.”

He said trial orders were taken on Friday and are now being opened to a larger consumer base.

Tomatoes will be available in D.C. through ONDC-listed buyer apps, including Paytm, Magicpin, and Mystore. It will probably be done in the next few days.

On Saturday, NCCF Tomatoes were available for purchase on the Paytm app from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. while supplies last.

Earlier this month, ONDC, an initiative of the Ministry of Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), launched direct beta in Mumbai, Delhi NCR (including Noida, Gurgaon and Faridabad), Chennai, Hyderabad and Kolkata, along with Bengaluru and Meerut. This was done after expanding the density of sellers in these cities.

Consumers can buy from sellers in these cities on the ONDC network through four active buyer apps – Paytm, Mystore, Spice Money and Magicpin.
