India’s oilmeals exports drop over 35% in June, but Q1 shipments up 19%
The decline in total exports of oilmeal in June restricted export growth to 19 percent in the first quarter of 2023-24.
The data available with the Solvent Extractors Association (SEA) in India showed that India exported 12.10 thousand tons of oily powders during the first quarter of 2023-24 compared to 10.16 liters in the corresponding period of 2022-23, an increase of 19.09 percent.
PV Mehta, CEO of India’s SEA, said the export of oil-based powders fell by more than 35 percent in June.
There was a big jump in the export of soybean powder in the first quarter. However, the export of rapeseed powder and rice bran extract decreased during this period.
Soybean exports rose to 3.64 liters in the first quarter, compared to 75,454 tons in the same period last year. The exports of rapeseed powder, rice bran and sifted flour decreased by 12.2 percent, 15.72 percent and 8.23 percent, respectively, during the period. India’s exports of rapeseed meal were at 6.2 liters (7.06 liters in the first quarter of 2022-2023), rice bran extract at 1.25 liters (1.49 liters), and shredded meal at 83,281 tonnes (90,750 tonnes).
India exported 2.80 liters of oily powder during June 2023 compared to 4.36 liters in May 2023, a decrease of 35.86 percent.
In June, the export of soybean flour, rapeseed meal and brewed meal decreased by 36 percent, 40 percent and 60 percent, respectively. In June, India’s exports of soybean powder were at 73,139 tonnes (1.14 litres in May), rapeseed meal at 1.40 litres (2.33 litres), and shredded meal at 17,512 tonnes (43,761 litres). However, exports of rice bran extract rose to 45,705 tons in June compared to 42,398 tons in May, registering a growth of 7.8 percent.

South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam and Bangladesh were the main importers of oilmeal from India during the first quarter of 2023-24.
India exported 2.47 liters of oil powder to South Korea in the first quarter of 2023-24 (3.38 liters in the first quarter of 2022-23). This included 2 liters of rapeseed meal, 34,153 tons of rapeseed meal and 12,102 tons of soybean flour.
During the period, Vietnam imported 1.92 liters of oily powders (1.84 L). This included 76,789 tons of rice bran extract, 67,628 tons of rapeseed powder, 47,797 tons of soybean meal, and 442 tons of peanut powder.
India exported 1.86 liters (1.34 L) of soybean meal to Thailand during this period. This included 1.76 liters of rapeseed powder, 5468 tons of soybean flour, 4666 tons of rice wort extract and 701 tons of soybean powder.
Bangladesh imported 2.57 liters (1.25 liters) of oilmeal during the first quarter of FY24. This included 23,158 tons of rice plant extract, 82,996 tons of rapeseed powder and 1.51 liters of soybean meal.
