NABARD should prepare roadmap for next 25 years: Amit Shah

It was proposed by Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday nappard To a comprehensive goal for the next 25 years and divide the period into five stages and evaluate performance annually to achieve the desired development in rural areas.

Addressing foundation day in mumbai National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) in Delhi, Shah also advised that all employees of the organization should be involved in setting such goals.

Shah said NABARD should set its goals keeping in mind its past performance and future requirements.

“Today a stage has come when we cannot imagine the rural economy without Nappard,” Shah said, referring to the achievements of the organization which has played a major role in financing agricultural development and rural infrastructure. He said a nation with 65 percent rural population could not prosper without Nappard.

Quoting instance Kisan credit card (KCC) which was launched in 1998 when there was no digitization in the country, he said: “I was the head of PACS at that time and I wondered how this could be done. However, thanks nappardAs many as 7.5 crore farmers have KCCs now.”

Unlike the ordinary credit card used by the common man, KCC was initially a hassle-free credit scheme for farmers through banks. However, the KCC cardholder can now access credit from any ATM using a “debit card” issued for this purpose.

The Minister also commended NABARD’s work in promoting Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and supporting villages to become self-reliant. He emphasized the need for collaboration among cooperative organizations to promote rural development.
