Rajavelu NK, CEO, Crop Protection Business, GAVL, He said, “Globally, India has the largest sub-area Cotton cultivation. However, with only 10 percent of Total acre area of cotton If handled properly, it not only affected the productivity but also the profitability of the farmers. And in order to enable sustainable cotton production, we are pleased to introduce our offering of 3 lines under the PYNA brand. “
“In order to ensure a quality supply to farmers every time, we are excited to partner with co-marketers to benefit from the PYNA brand. The same will allow them to benefit from the trust the Godrej brand has built among farmers in the past 36 years and collectively benefit from 90 percent of their Untapped cotton space.
Use of herbicides
Moreover, Ragavelu said herbicide use has rebounded as labor shortages and costs rise. The cotton crop grows at a slow pace during the initial stages. In addition, due to the wider spacing between crops, weeds affect the cotton yield by up to 45-50 percent. With PYNA brands providing a wide window of weed management options from seed sowing to the active flowering stage of a crop, farmers can now get a longer period of weed-free crop. The company said PYNA brands reduce competition between crops and weeds and help establish the cotton crop in the early stages, which directly affects yield.
Ragavelu said GAVL was the first company to introduce a selective post-emergent cotton herbicide, Hitweed, in 2007. Enabling cotton plants to get more space, light and air for vigorous growth without affecting the soil, it was developed for use 20-25 days after seeding (DAS). It testifies to the need to protect the cotton crop during the early post-emergence stage ie. 7-15 DAS, Hitweed Maxx launched in 2019 which enabled farmers to get better crop safety and better efficacy. In 2023, the company launches Maxxcott – a pre-emergent herbicide that kills the growth of major weeds in cottonEnsures good growth of cotton seedlings and reduces the spread of major weeds.
