US court allows M&M arm to keep producing, selling post-2020 version of Roxor

Mahindra and Mahindra said on Thursday that a US court has allowed its subsidiary to continue producing and selling a post-2020 version of its Roxor off-road vehicle in the US market.

On July 19, 2023, the Eastern District Court of Michigan issued its opinion and order on the renewal of Fiat Chrysler Automobile (FCA)’s application to approve Roxor beyond 2020 and based on its analysis refused to apply the safe distance rule to this case as requested by FCA, Mahindra and Mahindra said in a regulatory filing.

Accordingly, the FCA’s application to order beyond 2020 ROXOR was denied.

“With this ruling, Mahindra Automotive North America, a subsidiary of the company, still has no restrictions on its ability to produce, sell and distribute Roxor after 2020 in the US,” the Mumbai-based automaker stated.

Roxor was launched on March 2, 2018, to be sold in the United States and Canada.

Soon after, the FCA filed a complaint with the US International Trade Commission (ITC), claiming that the copying of the Willys Jeep and design elements of the Mahindra product violated some key design elements of the Jeep.
