Tata Tech evinces interest to set up CEFCs in K’taka, investing Rs 2,000 cr

Karnataka Minister of Medium and Large Industries MB Patil on Wednesday said that Tata Technologies has applied to set up three Joint Engineering Facilities Centers (CEFCs) in the state by investing Rs 2,000 crore to facilitate MSMEs.

His office said in a statement that representatives of the company’s leadership team met the minister at Vedana Soudha here on Wednesday and made the proposal in this regard.

Patel said the company intends to set up these centers to facilitate, especially MSMEs.

He added that the proposal is to set up the centers through a public-private partnership model where 70 percent stakes will be owned by Tata Technologies, and the remaining 30 percent stakes will be in the state government.

This is said to be the first proposal of its kind to establish such centers for MSMEs. The cost of each center is estimated to be around Rs 630 crore.

The minister explained that the CEF centers will meet the requirements of advanced manufacturing 4.0, electric vehicle testing, aerospace and defense, and will greatly benefit MSMEs and startups in these sectors.

Welcoming the proposal, Patel said the government has decided to give preference to boosting the MSME sector.

He added that each CEF center will require about 5 acres of land and a decision will be taken on providing it in the coming days.
