Sensex, Nifty updates on 29 December 2023: Sensex falls 170.12 points to end 2023 at 72,240.26; Nifty declines 47.30 points to 21,731.40. This decline was driven by a retreat in heavyweight financials, information technology (IT), and energy shares, which had recently surged. Makarand M Joshi, Founder of MMJC & Associates, praised SEBI’s proposal for verifying market rumors, anticipating parity and enhanced price protection. SEBI’s initiative aims to exclude market movements influenced unofficially, once confirmed by companies, from impacting share valuation formulas.
