Sensex gains 178 pts, Nifty closes above 18,300

European stock markets were trading lower. US markets closed in negative territory on Tuesday.

“US inflation data for the month of April will be very focused as this will provide some clues about the Fed’s next course of action on the interest rate front,” said Prashanth Tapsi, Senior Vice President (Research), Mehta Equities Limited.
