Rupee falls 3 paise to close at 82.04 against US dollar

The rupee depreciated 3 pounds to close at 82.04 (tentative) against the US dollar on Tuesday, tracking negative sentiment in the local stock market.

Forex dealers said the dollar’s weakness against major currencies and lower crude prices countered the decline in the domestic unit.

In the interbank foreign exchange market, the local unit opened strongly at 81.99 against the dollar. During the day, it rose to 81.96 and reached a low of 82.09.

It finally ended the session at 82.04 (tentative), down 3 piasters from its previous close.

on monday, The rupee settled at 82.01 against the dollar.

Meanwhile, the dollar index fell 0.37 percent to 101.73.

Brent crude futures fell 0.32 percent to $84.49 a barrel.

On the domestic stock market front, BSE Sensex is closed 183.74 points, or 0.31 percent, at 59,727.01 points. And NSE Nifty shares fell by 46.70 points, or 0.26 percent, to 17,660.15 points.

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net sellers in the capital markets on Monday as they unloaded shares worth ₹533.20 crore, according to exchange data.
