RedBus partners MakeMyTrip to conduct free eye screening for 4k bus drivers
redBus, India’s largest online bus ticketing platform, has screened 4,000 bus drivers across India, for vision and other health issues linked to the onset of diabetes, as part of its corporate social responsibility initiative.
The program is implemented in partnership with the MakeMyTrip Foundation and the VisionSpring Foundation to promote road safety and ensure the well-being of bus drivers and bus operator employees.
The checks were carried out in collaboration with qualified professionals from VisionSpring, ensuring high standards of safety and hygiene, at 70 different camps set up at suitable locations across Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Pune.
During checkups, patients diagnosed with low vision were provided with free prescription eyeglasses, and for cases requiring hospitalization, VisionSpring’s reverse integration with several hospitals enabled patients to be redirected to hospitals for treatment at subsidized rates.
“Bus drivers spend many hours on the road, and their health and well-being are of the utmost importance,” said Manoj Agarwala, Business Director, redBus.
“Through Mission Vision, we aim to provide drivers with access to free eye exams and diabetes screenings, which can help them identify potential health issues early and prevent long-term damage. We are grateful to VisionSpring for partnering with us on this initiative and helping us ensure The well-being of the workforce in our partner bus operators.”
Diabetes and vision care are important health factors that are often overlooked. Because of their frequent travel and erratic schedules, bus drivers rarely have time to test themselves.
About 4,000 bus drivers and other employees underwent the examination and 2,277 free medical glasses were provided, 96 percent of whom were wearing them for the first time.
redBus noted an overwhelming response to the tests as participants visited the camps in droves.
“We are delighted to partner with redBus and Makemytrip Foundation in this initiative and provide drivers with access to free eye and diabetes check-ups,” said Anshu Taneja, Managing Director, VisionSpring India.
“At VisionSpring, we believe that everyone deserves access to quality eyewear, and this initiative is in line with our mission to create a world where everyone can see clearly. We hope this initiative will raise awareness of the importance of regular health checks and encourage more people to take charge of their health.” .
