Parliamentary panel members visit CMFRI
A delegation from the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Agriculture, Animal Husbandry and Food Processing visited the Central Marine Fisheries Research Institute (CMFRI).
Headed by PC Gaddigodar, a Lok Sabha member from Bagalkot constituency in Karnataka, the group visited several research facilities of the institute and interacted with scientists to evaluate their research programs on marine fisheries and allied areas.

Visitors were briefed on the Centre’s work, including marine fisheries. Marine farming activities such as fish cage culture, seaweed farming, integrated polytrophic aquaculture, technology development for commercially important marine fish farming; marine biodiversity and environmental management; fish genetics and marine biotechnology; and socio-economic aspects and extension activities, among others.
CMFRI Director A Gopalakrishnan and heads of various departments discussed the future plans of the institute, emphasizing their efforts to maintain the sustainability of marine fisheries. Members of the delegation recognized the vital role of the Institute in ensuring food security and promoting sustainable fisheries.
Besides Ghadegudar, the other visiting MPs were Anil Sokdiurao Bund, Mathan Rao Peda, Ram Nath Thakur, Devendra Singh and Ramilaben Becharbhai Para.
