Nirmala Sitharaman meets IFAD president, discusses issues of mutual interest
She met Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) President Alvaro Lario and they discussed issues of mutual interest as well as some emerging global challenges.
During the meeting, the Minister of Finance stressed that multilateral institutions must contribute effectively to Ensure food security By investing in food storage, processing and manufacturing Rewarding small farming.
Besides, they should focus on ensuring the participation of emerging economies and developing countries and addressing new global challenges such as food security, debt distress and climate change.
She stressed the need for the multilateral development banks to conduct a new and fair review to deal with new and emerging challenges.
The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is an international financial institution and specialized agency of the United Nations based in Rome, the food and agricultural center of the United Nations. Since 1978, it has provided $23.2 billion in grants and low-interest loans.
