Microsoft India President Anant Maheshwari resigns, Irina Ghose becomes MD
Microsoft India said its India chief Anant Maheshwari (pictured) has stepped down to pursue other interests. Maheshwari’s announcement comes amid a reset within India’s top leadership.
“We can confirm that Anant has decided to leave Microsoft to pursue a role outside the company. We would like to thank Anant for his many contributions to our business and culture in India and wish him every success in his future endeavours.”
Last week, Microsoft made changes to its top leadership. As part of the rejig, Irina Ghose has been promoted to the position of MD, Microsoft India. She was earlier the Director of Operations. Sachi Sridharan, previously the Managing Director, has moved into a role in Asia.
As part of the leadership changes, Navtej Sigh Bal has been elevated to the role of COOs. Earlier he headed the government, public sector and education business for Microsoft in India.
Venkat Krishnan, who had been heading the partnerships, was promoted to head the government business unit.
According to media reports, Puneet Chandok who used to head AWS India, has resigned from his position, is heading to Microsoft.
Maheshwari was responsible for the company’s general presence and business in the country. He is also Chairman of the Board of Directors of Nasscom. Prior to joining Microsoft, Maheshwari worked with Honeywell India as President, and also worked with McKinsey & Company.
Microsoft has been a large cloud services provider in India and competes with AWS, Google and Oracle. Microsoft has also invested in the construction of three data centers in India. A fourth console is also expected to be established in Hyderabad.
Company India and the government sector are increasing their spending on the cloud. According to a Gartner report, end-user spending on public cloud in India is expected to grow by 27% in 2023.
