Maharashtra govt to support farmers in case of re-sowing
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said that the state government will help the farmers in case they go to re-sow due to the delay monsoon. In many parts of the state, khareef sowing has been completed, Shinde said, but farmers are worried because of the lack of rain.
Shinde told reporters in Mumbai that farmers were facing big problems due to the delay of the monsoon and that the state government was closely monitoring the monsoon developments.
He added that the government will not leave farmers alone in these testing times, and all efforts will be made to support re-seeding. Maharashtra farmers have completed planting on only 47 percent of the 142.02 hectares of land available for autumn sowing (excluding sugar cane). The late monsoon is likely to affect the production of moong (green gram) and urad (black matpe).
State to strengthen the law against false seeds
Meanwhile, the country’s Vice President Devendra Fadnavis announced that the government will toughen the law against companies selling fake seeds. Fadnavis said the companies would be held responsible for the failure to germinate.
