Ksheera Santhwanam insurance for dairy farmers to be revived, says Minister

Animal Husbandry and Dairy Development Minister G Chinchurani said the comprehensive insurance scheme for dairy farmers, Kashira Santhwanam, will soon be revived with approval by the state government.

The minister made the remarks while launching the official website and e-commerce portal of the Trivandrum Regional Cooperative Milk Producers Union (TRCMPU), allowing customers to make online purchases of Milma products.

Speaking at the launch, the minister said the insurance scheme, which was recently suspended, provided health and life insurance for dairy farmers and their families, as well as livestock coverage. The Minister congratulated TRCMPU for creating the website https://milmatrcmpu.com/enabling Milma’s consumers to order dairy products from anywhere.

Chinchurani said that although the state government has restrictions in limiting the flow of milk from other states, it has taken effective measures to check aggressive cross-border sales by other state brands that violate the principles of cooperation.

It emphasized increasing milk production in the state by increasing the time interval between the two milking operations, attracting more people to dairy farming, and ensuring the provision of good quality livestock feed at reasonable prices.

The minister said the government plans to extend Milmaschool projects to colleges as well.

Chinchurani also congratulated the 36 recently retired secretaries of milk cooperative societies in four southern provinces in 2022-2023 on the occasion. Noting that the service of the employees of the primary dairy cooperatives is commendable, she said by making such a farewell to them, TRCMPU has set a model that can be emulated.

TRCMPU Management Committee Coordinator, N Bhasurangan said that TRCMPU is the first Milma Regional Associations to launch its own e-commerce portal. Apart from providing a comprehensive overview of Milma and TRCMPU, the site offers a range of products that can be purchased from any part of the world.
