Indian IT services company Wipro Ltd said on Wednesday that it intends to invest $1 billion in artificial intelligence (AI) over the next three years.

The investments will focus on expanding artificial intelligence, big data and analytics solutions, as well as developing research and development and new platforms, the exchange file states.

This comes about a week after rival Tata Consultancy Services announced that it plans to train 25,000 engineers for their Microsoft Azure Open AI certification.

Companies around the world, from banks to big tech, have doubled down on their investments in AI after ChatGPT, an AI chatbot from Microsoft-backed OpenAI, took the world by storm in late 2022.

The company also launched Wipro ai360, its first AI innovation ecosystem, and said it will train all of its roughly 250,000 employees in AI over the next 12 months.

“Especially with the advent of generative AI, we foresee a fundamental transformation in the future, for all industries,” said Thierry Delaporte, CEO of Wipro.
