IMD Update: Heavy rain lashes over TN, Rayalaseema, puducherry, Kerala

Heavy to very heavy rain lashed isolated places over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal on Thursday while it was heavy over Rayalaseema under the influence of a well-marked low-pressure area, which has weakened the morning after on Friday. 

Moderate to heavy rain

Significant rain (in cm):recorded until 5.30 pm on Thursday over the meteorological subdivisions of Tamil Nadu, Karaikal & Puducherry; Rayalaseema; and Kerala & Lakshadweep is as follows: 

Tiruttani, Atiramapattinam and Chennai-8 each; Tirupathi-7; Nungambakkam and Karaikal-4 each; Yercaud-3; Nagapattinam, K. Paramathy and Tiruppattur-2 each; Dharmapuri, Kodaikanal, Madurai, Tiruchirappalli, Salem, Cuddalore, Parangipettai and Coimbatore -1 each; Arogyaram-1; Punalur, Thiruvananthapuram and Bengaluru-1 each. 

System to weaken further

India Meteorological Department (IMD) said this (Friday) morning that prevailing low-pressure area over Gulf of Mannar and adjoining Comorin area will move westwards towards Maldives and adjoining Lakshadweep area across Comorin area and weaken further gradually till Saturday. 

As predicted earlier, the movement away of this system will be followed close on the heels by a fresh rain wave across the Bay of Bengal and likely aimed at the south Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka coast over next few days. The IMD has maintained a watch for a fresh spell of rain over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaial; Kerala & Mahe; coastal Andhra Pradesh; south interior Karnataka; Lakshadweep; and Andaman & Nicobar Islands as follows.

Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal: Heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places on Tuesday. Isolated heavy rain likely today (Friday) and early next week on Monday and Tuesday. 

Kerala & Mahe: Heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places on 1Friday. Isolated heavy rain on Tuesday and Wednesday. 

Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema: Heavy rain at isolated places on Tuesday and Wednesday. 

South Interior Karnataka: Heavy rain at isolated places likely on Tuesday. 

Lakshadweep: Heavy rain at isolated places today (Friday).

Andaman & Nicobar Islands: Heavy rain at isolated places for three days from Friday. 

Towards the north, a western disturbance is seen as a cyclonic circulation over north Pakistan on Friday morning with an accompanying trough cutting across Bathinda, Patiala, Saharanpur and Pauri across the meteorological subdivisions of Punjab, West Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand and influencing winter weather over north and North-West India.
