IFFCO unveils nano-NPK fertiliser; eyes Kharif season launch pending approval

After nano-urea and nano-DAP, cooperative fertiliser major IFFCO has developed another product—nano-NPK. This product uses the same nanotechnology and hopes to commercially launch it in the next Kharif season once it gets the necessary government approval. The initial production will be from IFFCO’s Kandla plant, said the managing director and CEO of U S Awasthi.

This is another new product using nanotechnology developed by IFFCO,” Awasthi said. He said nano-NPK had been priced at ₹950/bag of 5 kg where the nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P) and potash (K) ratio will be available as 20:10:10. By using the nano-NPK of 1 bag (of 5kg), farmers will save two bags of urea (45 kg each) and one bag (of 50 kg) of DAP, he added.

Currently, farmers buy one bag of urea for ₹267, one bag of Di-ammonium Phosphate (DAP) for ₹1,350, and one bag of MOP for ₹1,550.

After adopting nano-NPK, there will be no need to use chemical fertilisers, he said, adding that this will not only save soil but also increase the yield and reduce the cost of production. Once it is applied, the nutrient will reach the root of the plant, Awasthi said.

IFFCO sources said the application was submitted this week and may take some time for approval. Government sources said it may require a detailed examination as it is in granular form and said to be using nanotechnology. But IFFCO’s MD said trials have been conducted for nano-NPK, and the results are very encouraging.
