I&B Ministry orders blocking of Pakistan-based OTT app Vidly TV

On Monday, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting said it had issued directives to block the website, two mobile apps, four social media accounts and one smart TV app from Pakistan’s OTT Platform Vidly TV.

He said this was done through the use of emergency powers under the 2021 Information Technology Rules.

The platform recently released a web series called “Sevak: Confessions”. This, the ministry said, “is proven prejudicial to national security, sovereignty and integrity of India, defense of India, security of the state, friendly relations between India and foreign countries and public order in the country.”

“It was suspected that the web series was sponsored by the Pakistan Information Operations Organization. The first episode of the series was released on 26.11.2022, the anniversary of the 2008 Mumbai terrorist attacks.”

Explaining the anti-India content, the ministry said the web series depicted a “distorted version of sensitive historical events related to India”. She added that the web series aims to “sow hatred and division among Indian communities”.
