Gram Unnati partners with Bayer to promote spring maize in Uttar Pradesh
Agritech Gram Unnati has announced that it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with multinational crop and seed protection company Bayer to promote spring maize cultivation in six districts of western Uttar Pradesh, targeting 1 lakh farmers.
Gram Onati said in a statement on Wednesday that farmers will be able to access timely crop advice, impart good agricultural practices and access to premium Bayer products along with the support needed to set up model farms. A pilot project was launched earlier in Udham Singh Nagar district of Uttarakhand.
While Gram Unnati will facilitate grower mobilization and ensure market linkages, Bayer CropScience will participate in technical guidance and product guidance.

The company said the MoU aims to replicate the success of the spring maize project in Uttarakhand where the pilot farmers benefited greatly after improving their income, adding that thousands of liters of water were also saved.
The six districts to be covered are Amroha, Bareilly, Bulandshahr, Moradabad, Rampur and Sambhal. “We are excited to work with Bayer to deliver greater value to smallholder farmers in Western UP by providing them with a level playing field,” said Aneesh Jain, Founder and CEO of Gram Unnati. He said this partnership will empower smallholder farmers by providing them with access to high-quality advisory inputs, credit, technologies and market linkages.
Gram Unnati has deep rooted connections in these six provinces and is already working with IFC and the UP Government to help convert 20,000 acres of summer rice into spring maize. Jin said the partnership with Bayer will help it mobilize more farmers and help them get the right technical guidance and guidance for the products.
