Fresh low-pressure area forms, likely headed towards Tamil Nadu-AP coasts
A fresh low-pressure area has formed over central parts of south Bay of Bengal on Monday, delayed by a day or two than forecast earlier. As in the case of the immediate predecessor, this ‘low’ too is expected become ‘more marked’ and move west-northwestwards towards Tamil Nadu coast and adjoining coastal Andhra Pradesh during next two days.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) also pointed to an incoming western disturbance parked over West Afghanistan and moving further east towards Pakistan and across the international border into North-West India over the next couple of days.
Western disturbance on move
Numerical models suggest the track of the ‘low’ may get influenced by movement of the westerly winds associated with the western disturbance system moving in from the opposite side and across North-West India. It may drag a bulk of the rain to east-northeast towards coastal Andhra Pradesh, coastal Odisha, southern parts of Bihar and West Bengal.
Parts of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, especially Tiruchirappalli, Nagapattinam, Puducherry, Vellore and Chennai may receive varying rain amounts over the next few days before the ‘low’ gets scooped up by the western disturbance and is carried east-northeast along its path during the course of this week, according to a few global models.
Rain likely for East Coast
Also falling under the emerging rain belt later this week are Tirupati, Nellore, Kavali, Vijayawada, Kakinada, Visakhapatnam and Srikakulam in coastal Andhra Pradesh; Brahmapur, Bhubaneshwar, Kamakhyanagar and Balasore in Odisha.
An IMD forecast said Light to moderate rain at isolated places accompanied with isolated thunderstorms and lightning likely over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema for three days from Tuesday. Isolated heavy to very heavy rain is likely over these regions on Tuesday and Wednesday while it will be isolated heavy on Thursday. Over coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema, isolated heavy rain is forecast for three days from Tuesday.
