Confident of resolving issues through talks with Maran: SpiceJet official

The case and final order is still pending before the Delhi High Court, the official said, adding that the Rs 380 crore is just the deposit amount.

A day after the Supreme Court refused to give SpiceJet more time in terms of paying interest related to the arbitral award, an airline official said Saturday that he was confident the issues would be resolved through talks with Kalanidhi Maran and Kal Airlines.

On Friday, the Supreme Court refused to extend the time allotted for payment to media baron Kalanithi Maran and his affiliate KAL Airlines under a ₹578 crore arbitration award related to a share transfer dispute.

The case and final order is still pending before the Delhi High Court, the official said, adding that the Rs 380 crore is just the deposit amount.

The official also alleged that the airline is in talks with Kalanithi Maran and KAL Airways for a full and final settlement of the interest amount.

The official said the airline is confident that this issue will be resolved to the satisfaction of both sides, as has been done successfully with many of its partners, through talks.

Earlier in the case, the Delhi High Court, on 1 June, had directed SpiceJet to deposit Rs. 75 crore “on the spot” to be paid to Maran and his Kal Airlines for interest on the arbitral award.

In a statement on Friday, the airline said it was a matter of paying interest on a principal amount of Rs 578 crore already paid. She added that the company remains committed to finding an amicable settlement.
