Call to maintain high quality standards for seafood amid global competition
Indian seafood exporters have to maintain high quality standards in the face of global competition, KN Raghavan, Secretary-General of the Seafood Exporters Association of India, has said
“We have a flourishing seafood industry growing exponentially, reaching $8 billion. To sustain and grow, we must improve our quality standards,” he said while inaugurating the two-day training programme on Sensory Analysis of Shrimp Decomposition organised at ICAR-Central Institute of Fisheries Technology (CIFT), Kochi.
George Ninan, Director, CIFT, highlighted the critical role of sensory analysis in ensuring seafood quality and preventing trade disruptions due to rejected consignments.
Equipping essential skills
The programme aims to equip seafood processing industry professionals with essential skills to assess shrimp decomposition as per FDA (Food and Drug Administration) protocol to maintain superior quality standards and enhance marketability. It is designed for seafood technologists and quality assurance personnel to develop expertise in the sensory evaluation of shrimp.
Participants will learn to conduct, interpret and report sensory analyses as a key regulatory tool for ensuring consumer safety and export compliance.
A total of 11 participants from various seafood export units across India are attending the training, benefiting from expert guidance and practical learning experiences.
