An Air India Express flight from the capital of Kerala state bound for Dubai turned back, on Sunday, barely two hours after taking off due to a problem with the plane’s air conditioning system, officials at Thiruvananthapuram airport said.

An airport official said Flight IX539, which had 174 people on board – including crew – took off from here at 1.19pm returned and landed safely at 3.52pm.

“The plane landed safely. All passengers and crew are safe. Local readiness has been declared. It was an AC problem,” the official said.

He added that the passengers are currently at the airport and will take off in an hour on another flight arranged by the airline.
