Kufos wins ₹10 crore grant to set up Fisheries Incubation Centre

In the great promotion of innovation and entrepreneurship in the field FisheriesKerala University of Fisheries and Oceanographic Studies (Kufos) has been awarded a ₹10 crore scholarship from Niti Aayog.

The scholarship aims to establish India’s first Attal Incubation Center (AIC) in the field of fisheries in the university, and to foster a culture of innovation and technological advancement. The AIC initiative is part of the Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), which seeks to encourage a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship across various sectors in India.

KUFOS, under the guidance of Professor Radhika Rajasree and Head of Fish Processing Technology, will lead this transformative project as the Principal Investigator.

T Pradeepkumar, Vice President of Kufos, said, “This grant is a testament to the importance of our work in fisheries and ocean studies. The Atal Incubator Center will serve as a hub for innovation, encouraging young minds to develop cutting-edge technologies and solutions to the challenges faced by marine ecosystems and fishing communities.

The AIC at KUFOS will be dedicated to promoting research, technological advancement, and entrepreneurship in fisheries and allied sectors. By providing an incubating environment for startups and innovative projects in the region, it aims to drive progress in the fisheries industry.

AIC will promote collaboration between academia, industry, and government, encouraging knowledge transfer and commercialization of research results. Moreover, it will play a pivotal role in job creation, providing an enabling environment for start-ups and entrepreneurs to thrive.

With the support of the NITI Aayog grant, Kufos is poised to lead the way in driving positive change and sustainable development in the fisheries sector, according to a press release.
