Centre launches subsidised Chana dal at ₹60/kg
Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal on Monday launched the sale of subsidized Chana dal under the brand name Bharat Dal.
The Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution, which Goyal also heads, said the pulses are being offered at a rate of 60 rupees per kilogram per single pack and 55 rupees per kilogram for a 30 kg package.

She added that the introduction of Bharat Dal is a major step taken by the center towards making the pulses available to consumers at reasonable prices by transferring the government’s stock of Chana into Chana Dal.
National Federation of Agricultural Cooperative Marketing (NAFED) grinds and packs Chana Dal for distribution through its retail outlets in Delhi – NCR and also through its NCCF, Kendriya Bhandar and Safal outlets.
Chana dal, under this arrangement, is also made available to state governments for supplies under welfare, police and prison schemes, and also for distribution through their consumer co-op outlets.
Chana is the most widely produced pulse in India and is consumed in several forms across India. Whole chana is soaked and boiled to make salads and roasted chana are served as snacks. Fried chana dal can also be used as a substitute for tor dal, curries, and soups.
