Tata Power 750,000 Mumbai customers to pay lower tarrif after APLTEL order
Tata Power said on Friday that its 7.5 lakh consumers in Mumbai will get a significant tariff reduction following an order from the Court of Appeal for Electricity (APTEL), while continuing to raise it by state regulator MERC.
“APTEL has today issued an order granting the temporary relief sought by Tata Power by maintaining the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) revised tariff schedule on the MTR (Multiple Tariff Review) frameworks approved by the esteemed Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) , the company statement said.
She added that in the interim period, the tariff proposed by the company to MERC on March 31, 2020 will become applicable again.
This tariff is 25-35 percent lower than the current tariff and will benefit consumers, according to the company.
The consumer of Tata Power will benefit from this demand.
It also justifies Tata Power’s position that it can provide cheaper electricity to Mumbaikars.
It added that Tata Power’s customers in Mumbai will benefit from this order, as the company will be able to pass on the exemption to its 7.5 lakh consumers.
In pursuit of fairness and affordability for its customers, Tata Power has approached APTEL, seeking a temporary stay on its latest tariff order, dated March 30, 2023, issued by MERC, it said.
He explained that the said tariff order would have increased the price paid by consumers even though Tata Power maintains a competitive average cost of supply.
“We will ensure that the exemption granted by APTEL is passed on to our 7.5 thousand liter consumers, reinforcing our unwavering commitment to fairness and affordability across all our operations,” said Sanjay Banga, President, Tata Power, Transmission and Distribution.
