Tea prices up at Coonoor auctions on improved buying
Blenders and those who sell tea in packs to retail outlets lifted tea prices at Coonoor auctions last week, thanks to their improved activity along with upcountry buyers.
According to the traders, prices were higher by ₹1-2 in sale 50 and it also resulted in registering a good sales percentage.
Global Tea auctioneers said the offered quantity in the leaf category was 16,99,154 kg, witnessing 89 per cent sales, while in dust, the sales percentage was 92 out of the offerings of 3,99,992 kg.
Fair demand
In CTC leaf, the high-priced teas and better liquoring sorts had fair demand and sold fully firm to dearer by ₹3-4. The mediums and plainer sorts bolder grades had good demand and sold dearer by ₹4-5, and much more at times. Generally, a fair demand was noticed in the overall CTC leaf sale.
The primary whole leaf grades in leaf orthodox were lower by ₹3-4 and occasionally some quality lots sold dearer by ₹2-3. The primary brokens was dearer by ₹3-4.
In dust CTC, the high priced and better liquoring sorts were dearer by ₹3 to 4 and occasionally some finer grades sold lower by ₹4 to 5. The better medium sorts were barely steady to dearer by ₹1 to 2. The mediums and plainer sorts sold steady dearer by ₹1 to 2. Generally, a fair demand was noticed in the overall CTC dust sale.
The primary orthodox dust grades were lower by ₹4 to 5, occasionally some quality lots sold dearer by ₹3 to 4. The secondaries and finer dusts were fully firm to dearer by ₹1 to 2.
