Samunnati, Maha FPO to procure onion, gram in Maharashtra

The Samunnati Federation and Maha FPO have come together to host the farm purchases Onion in Maharashtra. The Maha FPO has received orders from the National Federation of Cooperative Consumers of India (NCCF) for 5,000 tonnes of onions and gram, which will be procured from the FPOs on its list.

Under the programme, Samunnati set up an on-site loan disbursement team to process and make payments to the FPO and farmers for the purchase of 5,000 tons of onions, immediately under a basic Maha FPO financing scheme. In addition to 5,000 tons of (Bengal) grams or Shana It will also be purchased under the same program for the NCCF.

Over 50 FPOs to participate

More than 50 think tanks are expected to participate in the program in Nashik, Poona and Ahmednagar districts of Maharashtra state, where goods will be classified and kept for future distribution. This program will initially provide a platform where the FPO consortium can collaborate with a third-party agency to provide express, door-to-door credit services to its members, Samonati said in a statement.

N Ganesh, Head of Lighthouse FPO from Samunnati, said, “Farm requirements in the context of fresh goods are all about time and our idea is to create a model where we can enable this by addressing the need for liquidity at the speed of light.”

Sanjay Pandhir of Maha FPO, who is anchoring the program, said, “There are times when prices are right and commodities are available, but working capital is challenging. Samunnati’s proposal to process and spend working capital in real time could become a game-changer for the future of farm F&V procurement.” .

It will enable Samunnati to buy onions and gram worth ₹ 30 crore in Pune. The same program will then be expanded to other districts in Maharashtra, the statement said.
