₹2,000 banknote exchange: SC refuses urgent listing of plea challenging RBI decision
The Supreme Court on Thursday refused to include an urgent petition to challenge notices that enable the exchange of 2,000-euro banknotes without any application slip and identity proof.
The recess panel of Justices Sudhanshu Dolia and K.K. Vishwanathan took note of the briefs submitted for urgent hearing by Advocate Ashwini Adhyay and said she would not accept such pleas during the summer holidays.
“We do not deal with these types of cases during the summer holidays,” the panel said, adding that the petition could be referred to before a panel chaired by the Chief Justice of India.

Asking for urgent inclusion of the appeal, the lawyer said the $2,000 banknotes are being redeemed without any application slip and identity proof like the Aadhaar card by criminals and terrorists as well.
In a short period of time, 50,000 crores were exchanged in the banks by returning the 2,000 rupee notes, he claimed, adding that delay in hearing would result in all the black money being exchanged in the banks.
Updhyay has lodged an appeal with the Supreme Court against the May 29 decision of the Delhi High Court rejecting his Political Isolation Act challenging the notices issued by Reserve Bank of India (RBI) and State Bank of India (SBI) allow exchange of Rs 2,000 notes without the need to present any document.
On May 19, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Announce the withdrawal of banknotes of 2000 rubles of the said trading and traded securities can be deposited into bank accounts or redeemed by September 30th.
The Reserve Bank of India said in a statement that the 2,000-rupee notes will remain legal tender.
In order to ensure operational convenience and avoid disruption to the regular activities of bank branches, the RBI has said that the exchange of Rs 2,000 notes into notes of other denominations can be up to Rs 20,000 at a time in any bank from May 23. .
